Grasshopper 03:10
Lead me through time from ancient days that don’t remind Of the grind Chirping through blades erected by another grave Decayed From this dirt Reassert the lonely lie that we ain’t hurt Might as well hold your tongue From saying anything worse Molt through life And avoid the swarm Terraform this land With the drone of a coming storm Wading through time to find another way to die With a sigh Again and again fate leaves us dry to fend for our own From this dirt Reassert the lonely lie that we ain’t hurt Might as well hold your tongue From saying anything worse Molt through life And avoid the swarm Terraform this land With the drone of a coming storm Left to our devices we would flourish deep in the mental eye Open up the river Nile and fill it with our alibi As Moses sinks into a pit, cascading waves a shroud becomes Rewrite history until it’s sure that they will never be found It cannot be undone Devastation has left none It has only just begun Shunned It cannot be undone Devastation has left none It has only just begun Shunned

Plexiglass pity is such a common thread Don’t take notice, say nothing at all False words dismiss, empathy uninstalled If I can’t see past smudges on the plexiglass, appalled In this abyss I see nothing but walls The bottom line: I’m tired by design Opening my heart to you Every time you don’t know what to do I shrink away, you don’t pursue Dripping through, left behind Kept confined, sanity undermined If I don’t know bout the guarantee Might as drown my thoughts in Hennessy Wakin up I find myself in Tennessee Lookin back and it goes on endlessly Lately I’ve found myself ground down To a nub bouncin’ round in the downtown Look at you, ya look somethin like an ass clown Poutin’ loud, adorned by your fake crown Something tells me this ain’t it

Wake me when Those who wronged me have expired Then start again Found a ten On the street and left it, tired So start again So many men Fall in line At the taxpayers expense A blatant offense Spine declined A blank void left so fucking immense Spite Left out all goddamn night Then it runs your life Like parasites And I won’t buy that trite Rolling, so uptight Waiting on rewrites So far backed up No one can see the light Something else Longs to see me bathed in Misery and melt Things unfelt Often leave unscathed in Misery misspelt So many men Fall in line At the taxpayers expense A blatant offense Spine declined A blank void left so fucking immense Spite Left out all goddamn night Then it runs your life Like parasites And I won’t buy that trite Rolling, so uptight Waiting on rewrites So far backed up No one can see the light Seems invisible, despicable Vindictive sons of bitches flow If you don’t know what you don’t know How can you be so sure it grows By the time you spread it out It’s a crime to those without Sign away those selfish impulses Before they can find a way home Like parasites they’re overgrown Like parasites they have nothing of their own Like parasites they haven’t shown Like parasites they reek of the unknown Such an impure tone Don’t just leave me alone Broken words Never, never again will these leeches be let in

Oh Well 03:26
I thought I told you I thought you knew Oh well Guess I gotta say it again And again Is the sky still blue? Oh well Blah blah, fuck the formula This shit gonna turn me out Bout to hallucinate Look up, it’s raining doubt Close my eyes, it’s only rain Who am I to give a fuck? Alone and cold all up in a hollow embrace If you think that’s cool, you suck Bored of feeling only pain And when it comes right back it looks so goddamn phony Endlessly usurping when ya could just hold me From this ledge the ground looks so far down and lonely Let it all breathe Tell me I’m crazy, it’s okay, nothing I haven’t heard before, I have about thirty voices in my head telling me the same shit I can’t hear this shit no more, I’m deaf to the sound of you slamming the door Blah blah, betcha can’t relate It ain’t even worth my time You won’t reciprocate Leaving, it’s so sublime With the weight that we create Don’t look back, it’s all enough Wipe away the sodden acid Burns a bit but soon it’s placid And when it comes right back it looks so goddamn phony Endlessly usurping when ya could just hold me From this ledge the ground looks so far down and lonely Let it all breathe Late nights hold me captive in tense darkness Despite any attempts at holding down the light Overwrite And when it comes right back it looks so goddamn phony Endlessly usurping when ya could just hold me From this ledge the ground looks so far down and lonely Let it all breathe

By the way If you got time Do you think it’s come too soon? Lay awake An occupied mind I think it came too soon Nothing left to say Wonder why you wander alleyways If I don’t go too soon It lingers on like a gray day Something betrayed It’s a routine I’ve seen an array Of their damn green screens By the way they way they plead insanity Heard it before, protective vanity If I never Hear those words again It wouldn’t even be soon enough Crazy, can’t you see? By the way That we disagree Love downplayed If I don’t go too soon It lingers on like a gray day Something betrayed It’s a routine I’ve seen an array Of their damn green screens By the way they way they plead insanity Heard it before, protective vanity If I hold my breath I’ll die in wait Might as well risk death It ain’t innate If I hold my breath I’ll die in wait Might as well risk death It ain’t innate If I don’t go too soon It lingers on like a gray day Lingers on Lingers on Until its low and slow decay

about

These songs started before the pandemic hit us: I had asked if someone wanted to work on some pop songs together because I have a hard time conceptualizing what makes something poppy and Matt sent me a few instrumentals that he had recorded by himself. I took to them immediately and wrote and recorded Grasshopper in the summer of 2019. I had plans to write to the rest of them but life and the pnademic got in the way and I didn't actually get to them until March of 2022, in the midst of a personal crisis where I was couch crashing. I had just gotten through a pretty tumultuous breakup, so these songs started from a very emotional place. Songs about misanthropy, miscommunication, loneliness and self sufficiency took form in a remarkably short period of time and then we had the EP that you have before you. It's the most accessible thing I've ever done and I'm very proud of what we came up with together.
